A Graceful History – The Grace Building Heritage Tours
The Grace Building site prior to the 1870s was developed and occupied by a variety of small businesses and people including a small corner hotel. By the second half of the 1870s a building known as the Music hall occupied part of the site. Also, the first Sydney Opera House emerged, later known as the Imperial Opera House. At the turn of the century, it was taken over by McArthur & Co.
Once Grace Bros had acquired the York Street site in 1926 it engaged the architectural firm of D T Morrow & Gordon to design a new flagship building for its burgeoning retail empire…and so continues the fascinating story of what is now known as The Grace Hotel.
Come along the journey of discovery as we tell the tales of one of Sydney’s most iconic buildings. Allow our tour guide to take you through the rich history, artifacts and fascinating stories that make the Grace Hotel what it is today.
